Renovation of Glasgebouw on Strijp-S begins: 177 new apartments

The renovation of the Glasgebouw on Strijp-S has begun. The iconic former Philips building will be transformed into a residential complex with 177 apartments in the coming years.
The Glasgebouw is one of the most recognisable buildings on Strijp-S. The former factory once produced glass components for Philips, including parts used in light bulbs. Today the building accommodates a wide range of businesses and creative companies.
Transformation of industrial heritage
Redeveloping the historic building is a complex task. The structure was originally designed as a factory, meaning its layout is not naturally suited for residential use. In addition, its status as a protected monument brings specific design and renovation requirements. As part of the redevelopment, the top floor will be removed and several new residential levels will be added. A large passageway will also be created underneath the building so the cycle route along Torenallee can pass through the building towards the Philips Stadium.
Living in the heart of Strijp-S
After completion, the building will contain 177 homes ranging from studios to larger apartments and shared living units. The ground floor will include commercial spaces and places for meeting and community activities.
With this transformation, the Glasgebouw enters a new chapter in the story of Strijp-S — evolving from an industrial factory into a place where living, working and meeting come together.
